► PREHISTORIA Importante yacimiento situado al N de la ciudad siria de Latakia. Estuvo habitado desde el VII milenio a C hasta su destrucción por los pueblos del mar (hacia el 1200 a C).

Antigua ciudad de Medio Oriente.

Estuvo localizada en la costa oriental del mar Mediterráneo en la actual Siria. El primer asentamiento fue un pequeña ciudad fortificada en el VII milenio BC. Floreció en los s. XV–XII BC, cuando en ella se construyeron grandes palacios reales, templos, santuarios y bibliotecas. Fue destruida 1200 BC. Los vestigios que permanecen en el lugar incluyen antiguos registros en escritura cuneiforme.
